About us

History

In September 2020, Dr. Reinoso reached out to Dr. Londoño on Twitter for mentorship relating to choosing a psychiatric subspecialty.

The two discussed the limited number of Latinx professionals in mental health and the need for community building. They sat down and created the @LatinxPsych (#LatinxinPsych) Twitter account with the goal of creating an interdisciplinary space for Latinx mental health providers, trainees, advocates, and allies to celebrate and promote Latinx excellence, community building,  mentorship, education, and advocacy.

Since its inception, several other Latinx have joined the team to support the mission and the vision of the group.

Mission

Mission

Our mission is to create an interdisciplinary space to celebrate and promote #LatinxinPsych excellence, build community, provide mentorship, educate and advocate for Latinx mental health.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity (DEI), and Anti-Racism

The Latinx in Psych community is committed to creating a safe space for all individuals. Latinx is a gender neutral term that refers to individuals from Latin America or of Latin American ancestry. We aim to celebrate the diversity and intersectionality that exists within the Latinx community.

As an anti-racist community, we vow to purposefully identify, discuss and challenge racism and racist structures, including racism that exists within our Latinx in Psych community, and the larger Latinx community.
